Spinning at WEBS

WEBS had their second Spinning Summit this past weekend and I was lucky and grateful to teach. It was a mighty gang that gathered to spin with Amy King, Beth Smith and me. We taught three classes each. The attendees somehow picked three out of the nine classes. I taught Fractal Frolic, Successive Plying, and premiered a new class – Match Game. It’s all about learning to match, project, intention and yarn for a knitting project. I’m teaching this next in a couple of weeks at SAFF. My students were dedicated and really fast spinners. They had a ton of questions and burned through all of the material ...

Obsession Thursday: Rhinebeck 2016 recap!

As I haven’t been to Rhinebeck in years, this was an exciting trip for me. It’s hard to sum it up in paragraphs of prose, so I’d rather go with photos, and I think you would, too. Enjoy!     And then I went into the A and B buildings. The lighting for photography was best in these buildings, and I was able to get in before the crowds came. I loved so much in this year’s show, but couldn’t possibly feature everyone’s work, as much as I wish I could! These are just some delicious highlights. I can’t possibly compute realistic numbers, but what you’ve seen here ...

[Not] knitting on the road

For some reason, I seem to have lost most of the last two months. October was dedicated to a long-awaited work/vacation, followed by two weeks of intensive work so I could get back on the road. November included visits all over the place, teaching, meeting knitters [my favorite part] and seeing new parts of the country. During that time, you could often find me in airports, pulling carry-on luggage from gate to gate, which aggravated my carpal tunnel and — as a result — reduced the knitting time I could take advantage of. Thankfully, someone clever at the Knot Hysteria Silk Retreat* reminded me of the ...

Amy’s coming to the UK!

This trip has been in the works since before Sock Summit ’09 — aka more than a year. And finally, it’s almost here! It’s the brainchild of my friend, Craftlit host, Heather Ordover. I almost fell off my chair when she asked if I would be her co-host! It’s extra-exciting for me, because this trip also coincides with hub’s and my 20th anniversary and he’s coming with me. Yes, twenty years. Insane. [There are rumors we were married in the womb. I will neither confirm nor deny.] Anyway, I’m not posting this to brag about the trip. I’m excited because our brilliant ...

A plaid August for me

E-mails have been flying back and forth across the Atlantic for a little while, and the result I can now share with you: I’m going to UK Knit Camp this August in Stirling, Scotland. I am so excited about this, I can’t even stand it. Have you looked at the website? A world of teachers are participating, many of whom  have never been to the UK to teach before. It’s only fair. North America has had an abundance of  super-cool knitting events, including (of course) Sock Summit, Stitches events, Knitters’ Connection, and tons more. So now the other side of the ocean gets a chance, and I’m ...
