Jillian’s Obsession: Fibery Mugs and a Giveaway!

I drink  tea all day long and have collected a lot of mugs. Of course I’m especially drawn to mugs with any kind of a fiber theme, sheep and knitting needles cavort in my cupboards. I have Knitty mugs, Jennie the Potter mugs, mugs from local potters and a just a few from Etsy.

I recently ran across a fantastic set of mugs from Herdy, you know the cute little sheep stuff.

Herdy things usually look like this:

Cute little Herdy sheep
Cute little Herdy sheep

But this set is decorated with specially commissioned artwork from by Scottish artist Owain Kirby that depicts the journey of wool from sheep to finished object. The set is called Wool Journey.

So beautiful. I love the subtlety – you need to look carefully to really get it.

  3. Cate

Oh, my! Those would be perfect in my new apartment! Not kitchy, gimmicky, or tacky. These are fantastic!

  4. Christina M

  5. Kristy

Warm beverages and knitting go together perfectly, especially in a year when we’re just days from April and it’s still snowing… D:

    Thanks for the giveaway, Knitty!

  6. Laura

The only reason I don’t have one of those mugs was because I couldn’t decide which one was my favorite!

  7. RichelleCK

Oh, I love the Herdy things, but hadn’t seen these yet. Fingers crossed, but they’ll go on my giftie wish list if it’s not my lucky day!

  8. Susie in Minnesota

Ah! These mugs are just far to beautiful! I love that they are sort of medieval style … plus knitting!!

  9. Bonney

Ooh, these are gorgeous! I’d love to open my cabinet and see them waiting for me every morning! Thanks!

  10. Ann

I have an empty space in my cupboard where my old stained tea mugs used to live. I couldn’t clean them up any more so I could really use some beautiful new mugs.

  11. Michelle

I am so glad I haven’t won anything in over a year, because I would LOVE these mugs! I have my own sheep; does that count for an extra entry??? 😉

  12. Nicole

I love that these mugs have text on the inside- it always makes me happy to see that on mugs.

Though I must say, I LOVE the usual Herdy stuff- SHEEP EVERYWHERE!

Happy lambing season crazy times, y’all.

  13. Tia

Why yes, please! I picked up some of their stuff from ImagiKnit before, but didn’t realize they had more to offer!

  14. Moira

I am obsessed with mugs, too. Recently, I gave a number away and reduced the size of the collection- that means I can get more, right???

  15. Shannon

I am a coffee drinker, and have loads of handmade mugs, have yet to acquire any with a knitting theme. These look great.

  16. Amanda Heyen

What lovely mugs those are. My husband and I both knit and both drink coffee and tea, so these would be lovely. Thanks so much, as always.

  17. Kara

I love that the mugs are fiber-related without just showing sheep or a ball of yarn. They are beautiful!

  18. MzTallulah

The mugs are absolutely beautiful, both the illustrations and the colourways chosen. I’m a coffee drinker in the mornings, tea in th afternoons, and I’d love to have these. Thank you for the giveaway!

  19. Jan Doss

I’m a coffee drinker from the Deep South, USA. The mugs would be a welcome addition to my collection!

  20. Donna

My favorite mug is a depitction of leap-frogging sheep by Highland Stoneware. It’s lonely and could use some wooly company!

  21. Irene T

Lovely mugs! I drink a lot of tea, and I have mugs with dogs on them, cos I love dogs (I have 4), but sheep will be fine, since I knit.

  22. Kris

Those are beautiful mugs! If I were the lucky winner, I’d have three of my knitterly friends over for a cuppa, a chat and a good knit.

  23. Jennifer

Those mugs are beautiful–the toile-style pattern fits perfectly with the designs. Perfect for a spot of tea!

  24. Elaina

I am such a big tea drinker, so these mugs would be a perfect addition to my collection. Somehow I haven’t bought any fiber-related mugs yet!

  25. Emily M

how funny! i was just thinking i’d love to get some more mugs! Something much more fun than those silly blank, boring ones I have.

    Thanks for the chance!

  28. Reb

Beautiful mugs! I imagine warm beverages while we dream about the upcoming fiber festival . . . or for knit night . . . or for knitty ravelrous “research” . . .

  29. Cathy Selmi

Those mugs are works of art and would make wonderful gifts for my spinning and knitting friends. I don’t have any auctioneer or farming friends … yet. Thanks!

  30. Barb T

Those are wonderful mugs and I really don’t have enough mugs for my morning drinking of tea. Please, please draw my number. I’d love them. 🙂

  31. Tish

I have a huge mug collection including a few sheepy/ knitty ones- my kids have all “shopped” it when going off to college or a new apartment. I’ve got a couple of bright Knit Happy mugs, 2 white mugs with a raised knitted cable design I found on a Starbucks clearance table, a travel mug with cavorting sheep on it (suitable only for cold beverages as it doesn’t keep my tea hot). I’d love to add these Herdys to my mug cupboard.

  32. Jo-ann

You can never have too many mugs. And these are some gorgeously intricate. I need the mugs to deal with my tea habit. Tea + Knitting = bliss

  33. Sharon P

What a great set of mugs – I would love to have a set – thanks for all your great giveaways!

  34. Noelle

I also drink tea all day long, but most of my mugs are the free variety that come from churches and old jobs. Fibery would be better.

  35. margieinmaryland

with Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival coming up, these Herdy mugs seem very timely – I’d love to win a set!

  36. Siew

Love Herdy. I had a friend who was going to England pick up a mug for me. Love the new design.

  37. Cathy

I hope I win! My mugs seem to be getting chips in them… It could be that DD leaves them in her room on the floor. Fingers crossed!

  38. Barbara

I only drink out of Fiber related mugs. I would love to win these!!! Thanks for a great giveaway 🙂

  39. Linda

Am getting a new kitchen put in starting next week – am sooooo excited, but leaves me with no money to buy new mugs 🙁 Feelin’ sorry for me yet? Enough to let me win?!!!

  40. Kat

Oh my word. These are so beautiful! I’m weaning myself off coffee right now, but would totally start again if I had them to drink from…

  41. amy g

Oh, these are beautiful and fun! These would be wonderful conversation starters at work! Thank you for the opportunity!

  42. Elizabeth

Those are really lovely. And what fun colors! My “plain” Herdy mug would love some company!

  43. Lorraine

I’d love the mugs. I’ve just knit 2 of your patterns, Caireen in some local alpaca, and Bigger on the Inside in the Lornas Laces yarn called for. Gteat work.

  44. Lisa

    Gorgeous mugs!

I love collecting mugs. There’s something deeply satisfying about drinking a warm, cozy-feeling something or other out of mug that makes me happy.

  45. Donna H

These mugs are adorable. I have one knitting-related mug, but it occasionally needs to be washed 🙂 so I would love this set to add to my collection! Thanks for this great giveaway!!

  46. Bonnie H.

I, too, am a tea drinker and have certain mugs/cups that I prefer. My favorite is a porcelain Blue Willow patterned mug. These are beautiful. Thank you for the opportunity!

  47. Jennifer

These are so great! Just lost a favorite mug in a move, i’ll be looking at these. Thanks! Johnston4kids on rav.

  48. Carol R

Thanks for hosting another great giveaway.

What fun and great looking mugs! Perfect for my tea.

  49. Sarah from Boston

Oh, I love them! So pretty. And they’re not yarn, so maybe my husband won’t complain about them joining the household?

  50. Elisa

Well… I must say I am with you. We drink tea constantly in my house! My mum passed down the tradition of a proper sit down tea… but mugs come in extremely handy when time is more limited.

  51. Katk

Love the wood block style, it makes the modern equipment and the like look really odd (in a good way). I already have way too many mugs but may have to get these anyway.

  52. Anne

I love Herdy. I was given their salt & pepper shakers as a gift … complete with a plastic “grass” mat for them to graze on!

  53. Linda T

The mugs are so interesting to look at. They would make my other mugs move over and out for sure.

  54. Janelle

OMG I AM IN LOVE WITH THOSE MUGS! I have a simple orange Herdy mug but these are gorgeous…

  55. Rebecca

Oh, how beautiful…just the things to keep a mug of tea warm whilst cozily knitting away…me, please!

  56. Patti, oldgoatwoman

Artwork on Herdy’s mugs are fabulous; they remind me of tapestries. Love. Thank you for the opportunity to win!

  57. Fig

Those mugs are marvellous. I thought the original art must be woodcuts and it turns out I was right– the Herdy website says they commissioned an artist to do linocuts for each scene.

  58. Eve

I’ll s cool mugs for tea and hot chocolate while knitting … Yay to herdy for making more interesting mugs!

  59. Deb

Beatiful artwork. I never heard of Herdy before but will certainly check them out. I would love a set of those mugs.

  60. Trish

Wow, those are great mugs! I love the history and artwork
on each one! Wouldn’t they be fun for a small spinning group get-together?

  61. Amanda Underwood

I’m in the UK right now, all the Herdy stuff has been killing me with want. But I haven’t seen these. Too cute!

  62. Kristen E

They have towels and project bags with this pattern, too! I’ve been lusting after them since TNNA last summer. I’d love to win a set of the mugs – I’m trying to open a yarn shop and these could be my shop coffee mugs! 🙂

  63. Lisa

How loverly! I can already see it in someone’s happy little hands: knitting and tea, a glorious combination (or coffee or hot chocolate, but I hope the winner also appreciate Earl Grey!)

  64. Jill M.

Great artwork — they look like medieval woodcuts until you see the modern dress and machinery!

  65. nikkapotamus

I love Herdy! On a yarn road trip last year, we bought a set of the markers and everyone got one to remember a great weekend out (plus about a million pounds of fiber and other stuff!) A set of mugs would be so cool to use during knit night 🙂 Thanks to you and Herdy for a lovely little gift.

  66. Melissa

What a wonderfully fun give away. Love that mug set. Now I must hope that A. I’m drawn & B. My knitting knowledge is up to the challenge.

  67. Daron

Oddly enough I have no knitting themed mugs and I start my day with coffee and. Fuel it in the afternoon with green tea! Would love a chance to win these lovely mugs.

  68. Megan

I’m really not supposed to bring any more mugs home, but… these are beautiful! And it doesn’t really count if I win them, right?

  69. Suzette

The set of mugs is absolutely beautiful……and instructive! I imagine myself sipping tea, knitting, while “reading” the mugs for the history of wool. Brilliant!

  70. Marg

Herdy looks great. Like some others here, I had not been aware of it… but now will spend some happy time checking it out.

  71. amy

You can never have too many mugs, especially when they’re are nice as these. Thanks, and Happy Easter!

  72. Nicki

Those are WONDERFUL mugs! Love the designs and the color interpretations.

And such cute stitch markers. Baaaaaa!

    Happy Easter!

  73. csa

    what lovely mugs!
i was just shopping for mugs recently. i’m quite picky. but these definitely make the grade

  74. Sarah

Oh my! I’d like to see those as murals somewhere! Whoever wins those beautiful mugs is lucky lucky!

  75. Elizabeth

I love these! If I had these, maybe my family would finally understand the yarn making process.

  76. Robin F.

When I drink my tea in those mugs I run the chance of spilling while I admire the artwork. Oh what sacrifices we make for our yarn.

  77. MadTatter

Wow! Those are a huge change from the usual Herdy, but they’re so striking! What a cool idea – and so lovely, too. Thanks for the links to the other mugs, too – they’re so cute!

  78. Heather

I too have a mug collection! I just started my maternity leave, and I could use some new fun mugs as I knit billions of baby things! LOVE these mugs 🙂

  79. Lari

Fiber has been my main passion since I was a little girl playing in my mom’s stash of fabric. The mugs are so cool. They would be a great addition to my textile collection.

  80. M.F.Peterson

What beautiful mugs! These would be perfect for when I have my knitting friends over for tea!

  81. Angela

I also have a collection of mugs for tea drinking. This particular set is so pretty! What a great giveaway.
